How Do You Get Started?

When you call one of our Financial Care Centers, you have taken the first step to controlling and resolving your financial difficulties.

You will be asked to fill out a confidential questionnaire about income and expenses. You will also need to provide financial documents, such as credit card statements, to help the counselor develop a complete financial profile.

Your counselor analyzes your financial situation, with special attention to discretionary spending, where you can often easily make reductions that could be a major help in resolving the crisis. Next, your counselor works with you to create a spending plan to help you develop a solid financial framework.

If appropriate, your counselor contacts creditors to arrange repayment. Our Debt Solver Program (DSP) serves the dual role of helping repay your debts and helping creditors receive the money owed them. Creditors often lower interest rates and payments, waive late fees, and automatically bring you current on your payments.

You will learn how to set financial goals, track spending, set aside money for future expenses and emergencies, as well as how to manage the repayment of previous debt.

While enrolled in the repayment (DSP) program, you agree to make consistent monthly deposits. Your Care Center acts as the intermediary by distributing your payments to creditors. In return the Care Center may request a small contribution to cover administrative costs from the creditors. Finally, the center will offer money management classes to prevent credit problems in the future.

If your financial problem is too severe to repay debts at a monthly rate to creditors, your counselor will discuss other options, such as increasing income, cutting expenses, or legal assistance.
